As this was our 2nd meeting, Prof. Cahrles was invited to give some ideas and guidance on what a discussion group (specifically a Knowledge Management discussion group) should do/ have in order it to benefit all its members.
Some of the points highlighted by Prof. Charles were:
1. Have a general guidance (constitution) of membership
2. Encourage wider membership (interested parties in the wider areas of knowledge management)
3. Mantain an e-mail address list for group communication as well as a forum (internet base) - having summary details of members, contact details, research and list of publications
4. Have regular meetings (maybe about once a month)
5. Provide updates of reserach progress and events during meetings
6. Share useful, informative and interesting articles, calls for papers for conferences/ journals, databases, etc
7. On-going maintenance of momentum, interests through various activities- meetings, joint publications, participation in seminars, conferences, invitation of key scholars/ researchers to address the group, etc.
8. Encourage joint publications (conferences, journals, book chapters, etc.)
9. May need to have a regular bulletin (Quarterly) - may be just one page. This should document/ summarise the key highlights of the group
10. May need to consider affiliating with other KM interest groups (e.g. IKON, KIMNET, KMG Philadelphia, The knowledge Management research group (Loughborough- http://km.lboro.ac.uk/
